Why does MotorMouth exist?
MotorMouth was formed in July 2000 in
response to demand by Australian motorists for information on the
fluctuating prices of unleaded petrol. It was initially set up to
cover the major routes within a 15-kilometre radius of the Brisbane
CBD. Due to the overwhelming response from the motoring public,
MotorMouth expanded its monitoring service throughout 2001 to
include
Sydney,
Melbourne,
Adelaide,
Perth
and the Gold and
Sunshine
Coasts.
In response to
recent changes within the oil industry, MotorMouth has
reached agreement with the major fuel retailers to stream their
metropolitan fuel prices to www.motormouth.com.au to
provide motorists with a twice
daily 'snapshot' on fuel prices.
To supplement this
data, MotorMouth operates manual sampling collections of prices for
audit purposes from all brands across the market to ensure the
authenticity of the data.
MotorMouth also
continues to operate the service www.mypriceboard which provides
the opportunity for every service station not presently streaming
prices to make their prices available online to motorists. This is a
free service and provides smaller site operators with the
opportunity to input their prices multiple times
daily.
MotorMouth is committed
to helping Australian motorists get a better deal on fuel by
providing them with easily accessible information on fuel prices.
Our aim is to alleviate the frustrations involved with fuel price
variations by providing a twice daily 'snapshot' on fuel
prices.

What services does MotorMouth provide? MotorMouth provides motorists with a twice
daily 'snapshot' on fuel prices for metropolitan areas for major
fuel retailers.
In addition to this data,
MotorMouth’s own manual collection service provides a sampling of
service stations across
Brisbane,
Sydney,
Melbourne,
Hobart,
Darwin
and
Adelaide.
MotorMouth also provides
an average price for each city, and each region within the
city.

Does MotorMouth monitor the quality of fuel, including ethanol
levels? MotorMouth monitors the price of
fuel rather than fuel quality. For more information on the current
fuel quality standards in place and ethanol, click
here.

What are Email Favourites? All
registered MotorMouth users have the opportunity to build a
customised Email Favourites list. This facility allows you to build
a list of up to twenty five service stations, and receive the best
six fuel prices from these sites via the Internet or email. The
Email Favourites service is a free service.
The Email Favourites
enable you to personalise the MotorMouth service, allowing you to
choose the service stations monitored, the preferred fuel type, the
delivery methods for the information and the delivery
times.
What is the difference between Map Favourites and Advanced
Favourites? Map Favourites is the quickest way to set up
Email Favourites. It allows users to select whole regions on a map
to be monitored in your Email Favourites. It is easy to schedule and
with this type of Email Favourites users receive the best 6 fuel
prices in selected regions.
With Advanced Favourites
users select particular service stations to be monitored by
completing a postcode, suburb, street name or map search. Users can
select up to 25 service stations for each Favourites. The Advanced
Favourites is easy to schedule and you will receive the best 6 fuel
prices from the service stations chosen.

Is MotorMouth affiliated with any Service Stations or Oil
Companies? MotorMouth is totally independent from all
oil companies and petrol stations. Our core objective is to provide
you with information so you can make an informed decision with
regards to petrol purchasing. For further information, please refer
to our Guarantee
of Independence.

How often are the fuel prices updated? Prices
that are sent to MotorMouth directly from the major fuel retailers,
are updated twice daily at 8:45am and 4:45pm.
Prices that are collected
by MotorMouth drivers are updated once a day. Fuel prices are
progressively updated between 6am and 3pm each day. It is not
feasible for MotorMouth to monitor fuel prices on a 24-hour basis
due to the variability of prices in the
marketplace.
Prices that are submitted
by service stations directly through myPriceboard, are updated as
soon as they are entered.
[top]
Why do fuel prices fluctuate so much? Factors including oil prices, supply & demand, and
price competition have an impact on what you pay at the bowser.
Unlike certain other industries, these factors can change on an
hourly basis. This constant state of flux leads to the variation in
fuel prices. At MotorMouth we monitor and report on what is
happening in the market and not why things happen.
[top]
How accurate is the data collected?
Prices displayed on MotorMouth are accurate at the time
of collection to the best of our knowledge. Prices submitted by
service station operators through myPriceboard are checked for
irregularities; however we rely on service station operators to take
full responsibility in entering prices to ensure their
accuracy.

My area is not listed - are you able to include it?
Unfortunately, as
this sort of data is extremely expensive to collect, we are unable
to collect all areas. We would love to collect from all stations
across
Australia, but
unfortunately we don't have the resources to do so, but you never
know what will happen in the future!
Recently
we have launched www.mypriceboard.com,
which allows ANY service station in
Australia to post their
prices on MotorMouth and through to the MotorMouth Partner Network.
The best way to get a service station to use www.mypriceboard.com is
to tell them you think it's a great idea! With your help, we will
increase our coverage greatly across the country.
[top]
Not all service stations in my area are listed - why? In order to cater for as many motorists as
possible, we display pricing for service stations within the
metropolitan areas. With the introduction of myPriceboard, any
service station can submit their prices for inclusion on
MotorMouth.
If there are specific
service stations that you would like to see included on MotorMouth,
they may be interested in putting their prices on MotorMouth through
myPriceboard. Go to the MotorMouth Home Page and print off a flyer
for myPriceboard, fill in your details and give it to the service
station in question.
With your help we will
get many more service stations listed on
MotorMouth.
