Hello again from the team at MotorMouth
Well the price cycle appears to have returned to the local fuel market in Sydney, with prices shooting up late on Friday afternoon. Some people might look at this as timed perfectly to coincide with the weekend but it had been a few weeks without any cycle at all and the independents were obviously hurting.
The media had correctly reported that many outlets were being forced to sell fuel at or below cost to remain competitive and for any business that is not good news, particularly small business owners.
Let’s not forget that independents keep the market humming and without them it’s no good for anyone. Prolonged discounting to the point of selling at or below cost will hurt small operators without a shadow of a doubt.
On a related topic, we noticed this article in the New Zealand Herald about how modern service stations won’t provide driveway service due to health and safety precautions. Sadly this is also the case in Australia and a far cry from a time when stopping to buy petrol was more than just about discount vouchers.
So that made us think.
Would you pay extra for driveway service?
So that’s the topic of our poll this month. If driveway service was available at your local service station, how much extra would you be prepared to pay?
Are there any service stations out there that do? Let us know what you think.
Until then, take care and safe motoring.
Cheers
Sean Rennick
