MotorMouth Happenings

Hello and welcome to the November 2007 edition of the MotorMouth Newsletter.

Biodiesel

The CSIRO has recently released an interesting report commissioned by Caltex on greenhouse gas and air quality emissions of biodiesel blends in Australia.

Biodiesel is a diesel substitute made from renewable materials such as tallow and vegetable oils which typically is blended into diesel at ratios of 2, 5 and 20 per cent depending on the type of customer using the product.

The CSIRO report shows a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions occurs even with a 2 per cent biodiesel blend. Read the report here.

It will be MotorMouth’s intention to report prices for biodiesel early in 2008.

Government Fuel Inquiries

ACCC

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) are expected to deliver their report on their “Inquiry into the price of unleaded petrol in Australia” to the Treasurer on the 15 December 2007.

Copies of submissions and transcripts of their public hearings can be found here.

QLD Government

In Queensland, the Fuel Subsidy Commission of Inquiry delivered their report on 21 November 2007.

This Inquiry was prompted by conclusions reached by the Queensland Treasury Fuel Task Force that the full 8.3 cents per litre government subsidy was not reaching motorists in Queensland.

Read a copy of the report here.

Until next month...
