Hello and welcome to the June edition of the MotorMouth Newsletter.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has recently announced they will be conducting a further enquiry into fuel pricing.
At MotorMouth we receive a lot of enquiries about the fuel price cycles and we always encourage motorists to try to time their fuel purchases to take advantage of the cycles. We continually tell people and the media to generally fill up on a Tuesday or early Wednesday morning.
By waiting another 24 hours you might save another 1-2 cents, however you could also pay an extra 8-13 cents per litre if your timing is not right and prices rise in the normal weekly cycle. Current research suggests that approximately 65% of motorists in most states buy around the lower point in the cycle.
Whilst many media commentators suggest the fuel pricing cycles only occur in Australia, this is not correct. The cycles are actually known as “Edgeworth Cycles”.
Our research indicates cycles also occur in a range of other cities including Oslo, Toronto, Chicago etc.
This month's winner is Kevin from Blackwall in NSW.
Kevin's entry - Speed Limits in School zones
"The primary function of speed zones arounds schools is to protect children.
Whilst visiting Vic and S.A. recently I was not aware of the location of school zones or schools when I was driving through various towns and cities.
I believe that the surface of the road in School Zones should be painted a standard colour throughout Australia ie. red. This brings to the attention of the driver the fact that she/he is in a school zone and should be aware of the possibility of children on the road irrespective of the time of day."
Congratulations! Your prize will be sent out
to you shortly.
