FuelWatch Happenings
  Hi

Welcome to the 7th edition of FuelWatcher, the newsletter that saves Australian motorists money with fuel saving tips and information.

SMS voting another FuelWatch first!
FuelWatch has had another exciting month, examining ways to improve our service to you, including the use of SMS to communicate with FuelWatchers. This has seen FuelWatch achieve another first, becoming the first company in Australia to bring together two forms of leading edge communication tools, that is, SMS and tailgate advertising, to conduct our latest competition. The competition was open to all Brisbane residents, who were given the chance to win $250 free fuel simply by sending us an SMS with the letter they spotted on any of the tailgate truck ads that were traveling around the city carrying the FuelWatch message. We had a great result with entries exceeding all expectations. Click here for more.

Stronger Privacy
We recently strengthened our privacy policy to ensure you’re confident you’re personal details are safe. Privacy has always been a cornerstone of the service we provide, with the trust of our users imperative to our existence. The recent updates ensure that your information is only used for the purposes you allow us. We have taken the initiative to provide your personal information with greater protection than what is required by the National Privacy Principals (NPP). Click here for the updated privacy policy.

Richer Daily Emails
Another exciting move for FuelWatch for this month was the rollout of our new daily HTML emails in Brisbane. This move was based on a need for richer content and a format that allowed you, our users, to have a more interactive experience. We have had excellent feedback from a large number of users regarding the user-friendliness of the new format. We are collating this feedback and planning on rolling the email format to other states during July and August.

Until next month, safe motoring!

What's News

Damien Reid, our guest editor, with more fascinating news on the Fuel and Auto front.

United States Petrol Industry Under Investigation
Congressional investigators in the United States have concluded that their petrol industry is dominated by a handful of oil companies capable of manipulating supplies to increase prices and profits. [Read more]

Monaro Hit By US “Gas Guzzler” Tax
So keen have General Motors heavyweights in the United States been to get hold of our own Holden Monaro that they have waived company policy of ensuring every car meets the US fuel consumption guidelines and are prepared to cop the dreaded “gas guzzler” tax for thirsty cars. [Read more]

New car reviews proudly supplied by AutoSpeed.

HSV Clubsport R8
Think 'HSV' and it's easy to immediately believe that the cars will be harsh-riding, noisy packages. You know, better for out-and-out racers than the mainstream Holden cars, and really only suitable for those happy with that undoubted hard-edge. [Read more]

Subaru Liberty B4 twin turbo
Mention twin-turbos and most people assume you're talking about a car that's completely devoted to raw power. The Subaru Liberty B4 is much less of an animal - instead its twin-turbos are aimed purely at driveability. [Read more]

Renault Clio Privilege 1.6
You almost need to speak French when you first meet the Renault Clio. As an avid believer that a good car should be intuitive to drive, I expect all necessary controls to be easy to locate and use. The Clio is not like this at all. [Read more]

Fuel Saving Tips
Each month we will have a fuel saving tip that has been sent in from one of our FuelWatcher's. If you know of a way that can help other FuelWatcher's save money on their fuel bill please send it in. If your tip is published we will send you a $25 FREE fuel voucher.

This month's winner is John Bonnici from South Australia.

" Here is a simple way to help save fuel: Minimise the car's weight. The heavier the load of a vehicle the more fuel you will consume. You can minimise the weight by removing any unnecessary items from your boot, glovebox, back seat, etc. If you don't need it with you then why haul it around with you in the car. An example would be a full set of tool in the boot of your car. I would recommend carrying a minimal number of tools to get you out of trouble should the need arise, other than that leave them at home."

Congratulations, your $25 free fuel voucher is on the way!
