MotorMouth Happenings

Hello and welcome to the April issue of the MotorMouth Newsletter.

We have recently received a number of emails from motorists wanting to know where they can obtain information on biodiesel and asking why we are not advertising biodiesel prices on MotorMouth.

At this stage the answer is when a reasonable number of service stations in metro areas display their biodiesel pricing on their priceboards, then MotorMouth will change the service to reflect these prices.

Unfortunately our drivers can not drive onto the forecourt to check prices on pumps because it adds significantly to the cost of collecting the data.

So if you are currently using biodiesel in metro areas, please drop me an email as we are keen to build up our data base.

There have been a few service stations opening up selling biodiesel. The most obvious one being The Biodiesel Station - http://www.thebiodieselstation.com.

B100 biodiesel, which is considered a superior fuel to distillate in many ways, is currently at least 10c cheaper than distillate, as it gets blended lower with distillate, the price goes up, due to distillate being more expensive.

There are currently 46 retail outlets selling biodiesel (often called "premium diesel") from the South Australian Farmers Federation (see: http://www.farmersfuel.com.au/sites.html).

There are now 3 stations that have been reported in Sydney on a biofuels forum (see:
http://www.biofuelsforum.com/showthread.php?t=145) with many more regional sites.

There are said to be more coming on line in the coming months as well.

BP has recently announced that it will be using 5% biodiesel and most of the majors are already using it in small blends.

Drive carefully over the Easter holiday break and do not become another road accident statistic.

Until next month…

MotorMouth Competition

This Months Prize

This month's winner is Mark from Brisbane in QLD.

Mark's entry - What is a day's difference?

"I am wondering how the same petrol in the same tanks can change prices in a space of 2 hours. This is a theft in my view, the service stations are stealing from us every time we fill up.

They will lower prices in the beginning of the week to ensure that customers will go to their station, but when it is close to payday they will up their prices.

This is the same petrol, just a different day."

Congratulations Mark! Your prize will be sent out to you shortly.

Muscle and talent belie MPS's bland facade
For a car with the dullest name imaginable, the Mazda 6 has generated a lot of interest. Its launch in August 2002 was the start of a revival in medium car sales. It clearly has something people want.

Even well-heeled now drink diesel
Few of these buyers would be worried about the price of petrol, or how much they spend on their star new car. Yet more and more of them — BMW Australia says its 20 per cent prediction could be conservative — are taking the diesel road..

Quiet Grandeur
Driving home the other night I found myself mightily impressed by how quiet it was inside the cabin of Hyundai's new Grandeur. I mean, it wasn't just quiet, it was quiet enough to do the reading room at the local library justice – and that must say something about the car.

Citroen's looker plays so hard to get
Some migrants never really fit in. It's often not their fault ... sometimes it is difficult to even put a finger on exactly why there is an issue. After all, in many instances the rest of their family do just fine. Some even thrive. Citroen's C5 is a case in point.
