MotorMouth Happenings

Hello and welcome to the June 2005 edition of the MotorMouth Newsletter.

Oil prices have reached record highs this week, trading above US $60 a barrel. This increase in oil prices has some fuel-pricing experts predicting that petrol prices in Australia will climb above $1.20 over the next few weeks.

So, what's happening with fuel prices in your city? These ULP prices are for Tuesday 28 June 2005.

City Low High Average
Brisbane 91.5 109.9 97.1
Sydney 101.9 118.9 105.0
Melbourne 105.9 117.9 108.2
Adelaide 104.6 117.5 110.5
Perth 99.9 118.9 106.7

This City Summary fuel pricing information is freely available to all MotorMouth registered users on the My Charts section of the MotorMouth website. We also have available at My Charts, daily averages for the past six months for each fuel type. It is interesting to see the range in pricing in each city and illustrates that real savings can be made when buying petrol, if motorists know where to go.

Are there consistently cheap days to buy fuel in your city?

We at MotorMouth are often asked what day or days are the cheapest to buy fuel in each capital city. Essentially there is no golden rule regarding this, as the cheapest days can change from week to week. In Brisbane for example, Wednesday and Thursday were traditionally known as he cheapest days to buy fuel. However, as can be seen in the table below, in the past four weeks the cheapest days in Brisbane have actually included a Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Cheapest days to buy fuel in the last four weeks

City 30/5 - 5/6 6/6 - 12/6 13/6 - 19/6 20/6 - 26/6
Brisbane Monday Saturday Sunday Saturday
Sydney Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday
Melbourne Tuesday Saturday Sunday Tuesday
Adelaide Friday Friday Friday Friday
Perth Monday Sunday Monday Monday

Our recommendation to motorists is to keep an eye on petrol prices in their city each week and buy fuel when it is cheap, rather than on a particular day. MotorMouth offers all registered users free access to personalised fuel price daily email alerts. These alerts help users keep up to date with what's happening with fuel prices in their area and city. Learn more about MotorMouth Daily Email Alerts here.

MotorMouth Competition

This Months Prize

This month's winner is Julian from Adelaide in SA

Julian's entry - Fuel Saving Tip - a Win Win Solution

"Ok you blokes - it's time to get off the sofa and go to the supermarket with your partner for the weekly shopping. Take two trolleys through the store and pay for them separately. Not only will your partner appreciate your help, you will each get a petrol discount voucher.

If you've got driving teenagers (and have superhuman powers of persuasion over them) take one of them along for a third trolley. If it embarrasses you to use one credit card for both transactions just get the bank to issue a second (or third) card on the same account."

Congratulations Julian! Your prize will be sent out to you shortly.
