MotorMouth Happenings

Hello and welcome to the April 2005 edition of the MotorMouth newsletter.

With petrol prices remaining at record highs throughout Australia, this has been an exceptionally busy month for MotorMouth. In April over 900 new members joined MotorMouth and approximately 50,000 individual price searches were completed on the MotorMouth website. In addition to this, media groups from around the country have contacted us to provide fuel-pricing information for their television, radio and newspaper stories. Clearly the word is spreading that MotorMouth’s services are helping Australian motorists save money on their fuel bill!

Remember, if you would like to introduce a friend or family member to MotorMouth, go to http://motormouth.com.au/tellyourfriends.aspx. Also, if you are not already receiving your free personalised daily fuel price Email Elerts, and you would like to, simply login to MotorMouth and click on CREATE EMAIL. We receive a great deal of positive feedback regarding our Email Elerts as users find them very helpful to keep track of fuel prices in their street, postcode, suburb or city.

Given the current price of petrol, we have decided to focus this month’s editorial on the newest fuel saving scheme rolling out throughout the county. The scheme is called Servo Savers and it can offer some real relief to the hip pocket from soaring fuel prices.

What is Servo Savers?
The Servo Savers initiative has been designed to reward consumers who shop with participating locally owned small to medium sized businesses with discounts of 5 cents to 15 cents per litre on their fuel purchases. According to Servo Savers they are “passionately driven to protect the ongoing viability of small and medium sized businesses, including independent fuel operators, who have played a very important role in building our nation. Our commitment to assist in guaranteeing their future is second to none."

So what makes Servo Savers different from the other fuel offers?
As we all know there are lots of fuel saving offers currently running throughout Australia. Some of them are nationwide and some are specific to local areas. Customers who shop at Servo Savers aligned businesses are offered 5 cents per litre off their fuel purchase (for up to 30 litre of fuel). This 5 cent per litre discount is similar to other fuel offers in the market, however, Servo Savers also allows consumers to accumulate up to 3 of these rewards to increase their savings to 15c per litre.

The purchases must be made at three different participating businesses and redeemed at a participating Servo Savers petrol station. Currently, some Servo Savers outlets are offering Double Reward points, so it’s possible to get 30 cents per litre off the price of fuel! To read the Servo Savers Terms and Conditions, go to: http://www.servosavers.com.au/Terms_Cond.html.

Where are Servo Savers petrol stations or businesses?
Servo Savers is now operating in selected regions in NSW, QLD, SA and TAS. To find out if your area is covered or to locate a participating service station, go to: http://www.servosavers.com.au/index.html.

The brochure containing a list of participating local businesses can be collected from your local service station. Servo Savers is gradually rolling out throughout the country, so to see when Servo Savers is coming to your area, click here.

In other MotorMouth news, I would like to congratulate monthly MotorMouth Newsletter guest editor, Damien Reid, who has been appointed the Group Motoring Editor for The Media Factory in Dubai. The Media Factory publishes titles in the Middle East and Damien’s responsibilities will include being editor for Auto Car and F1 Racing magazines, as well introducing other titles to the Middle East. Fortunately for MotorMouth, Damien has agreed to continue with his monthly contributions to the MotorMouth Newsletter. Head to the What's News? section of the newsletter to check out Damien’s articles this month.

This Months Prize

This month's winner is Graeme from Runcorn in QLD

Graeme's entry - Reversing

"I am sure that most can relate to times when we have sat frustrated watching a driver at the boat ramp or the rubbish tip attempting to reverse their trailer... only to see them end up in knots!

Something my father taught me some years ago (more than I'd like to count) was to hold the steering wheel with one hand at the bottom. Simply move your bottom hand in the direction you want the trailer to go."

Congratulations Graeme! Your prize will be sent out to you shortly.

Alloytec Adventra still off the pace
HISTORY might have been different if Holden had ticked all the boxes on its first Australian all-wheel-drive program. It got out first with the Adventra, and followed up with the Crewman Cross8. But the price was too high, supply was tight, the cars only came with V8 engines and the package didn't deliver on all the promises.
