Hi

Hello and welcome to FuelWatcher. This is our 5th edition and is full of news and money saving tips.

The most exciting news this month is the launch of a new service called ePriceBoard. ePriceBoard enables service station operators to submit their prices into the FuelWatch system whenever they change. The result is more up-to-date prices and expanded coverage. Now with the participation of service stations, FuelWatch can potentially reach every postcode in Australia, great news for motorists and great news for service stations who can reach the FuelWatch audience all over the country. To learn more about ePriceBoard please visit http://epriceboard.com

In other developments, we have recently commenced surveying prices twice each week-day. Additional price updates are now being published to FuelWatch each week-day afternoon, providing you with more current and up-to-date prices. This translates into more savings for you. So if you fill up on your way home from work don't forget to check FuelWatch for the latest prices.

This month's feature articles by Damien Reid include the 3rd installment in our series on hybrid vehicles. Damien reviews Honda's new hybrid Civic. There is also an interesting feature story on Lead Replacement Petrol (LRP). All of Damien's articles can be found in What's News?

Motorpass And finally, we are pleased to announce our recent alliance with Motorpass. Together, FuelWatch and Motorpass can offer you a fast and convenient means to locate and purchase fuel at a competitive price.

For twenty years, Motorpass has been Australia's premier fuel card, assisting business - large and small - with the task of administering vehicle-related expenses. For more information or to order your Motorpass card click here.

Until next month, safe motoring!

Fuel Saving Tips

Each month we will have a fuel saving tip that has been sent in from one of our FuelWatcher's. If you know of a way that can help other FuelWatcher's save money on their fuel bill please send it in. If your tip is published we will send you a $25 FREE fuel voucher.

This month's winner is Bill Hughes.

"Almost all fuel injected cars have the ability to turn off their injectors when fuel is not required to keep the engine running. If the engine is revving enough so that it won't stall, the Engine Management System (EMS) can turn off the fuel supply altogether. For example, when a car is moving downhill or approaching a stop, and your foot is off the accelerator, the EMS injects only enough fuel to keep the engine running. Many of these cars are automatic, and as such people don't use their gears under any circumstances, however, if you select a lower gear when approaching a stop or coasting down a hill, you not only stop using fuel, the air that is being drawn through the engine also passes over the catalytic converter, in the exhaust system, and pollution (unburnt hydrocarbons) from other vehicles is eliminated, leaving the air behind you cleaner than that in front. Another great side effect is that you save your breaks. While the engine is slowing you down, you do not need to brake as hard or as often.."

Congratulations Bill, your $25 free fuel voucher is on the way
